My percision mechanic journeyman's piece, last update: 08.09.2019
Workshop > Handcrafted
In 1985 I had my precision mechanic final exam. For the practical part, a journeyman's piece had to be custom-built. I could choose what I wanted to build and as I had an old compass at home, which I found on a flea market, the choice was made.
I re-engineered/recreated the compass. Drew the technical drawings, all with ink. Got the drawings approved with some exam relevant stipulated measurements and then manufactured the compass.

August 2019, after some more experience with Autodesk Fusion 360 I constructed the compass in CAD.
A Brunton Pocket Transit is a precision compass made by Brunton. The instrument was patented in 1894 by a geologist named David W. Brunton.
