In 1985, I took my final exam to become a precision mechanic. The practical segment required crafting a custom journeyman's piece. Having discovered an old Brunton compass at a flea market, I decided to recreate it for my project. I produced detailed technical drawings, incorporated exam-specific measurements, and obtained approval for these plans. Finally, I successfully manufactured the compass.
August 2019, after some more experience with Autodesk Fusion 360 I constructed the compass in CAD.
A Brunton Pocket Transit is a precision compass made by Brunton. The instrument was patented in 1894 by a geologist named David W. Brunton.
